The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has cracked down on a number of illegal accommodation operations in Kasoa and surrounding communities, ordering an immediate halt to their services for operating without valid operating licences.
According to the Authority, the affected property owners had repeatedly ignored official warnings to register their businesses as mandated by the Registration and Licensing of Food, Beverage and Entertainment Enterprises regulations, 2016 (L.I. 2238).
The enforcement team moved through the area targeting unregistered guesthouses and short-stay apartments, securing the premises until the owners fulfill their statutory obligations.
Addressing journalists during the operation, the Accra West Regional Director of the GTA, Richard Agyenim Boateng, stressed that operating any form of guest accommodation without proper clearance from the state remains a serious legal breach. He cautioned that any facility operator who attempts to unseal their property or resume operations without proper licensing faces criminal prosecution.
Mr Boateng noted that the crackdown is designed to enforce industry standards and safeguard the safety, comfort, and general wellbeing of visitors.
“We are mandated to close down all facilities that are not registered. These facilities have failed to register with us and have ignored our notices. That is why we are here to ensure they do the right thing. They operate Airbnb facilities, and we want them to come to our office to go through the registration process and obtain licences,” he said.
