A 40-year-old Okada rider, Yaw Essuman, is in critical condition after his hand was severed in a violent cutlass attack at Kansaworodo, a suburb in the Essikado-Ketan area of the Western Region.
The assault followed a heated dispute triggered by allegations of gossip within the community.
Reporting on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Ebenezer Manso-Cudjoe, also known as DCE, disclosed that the tragedy stemmed from an ongoing marital feud involving the suspect, identified only as Essan.
According to the report, the victim’s unemployed wife—with whom he shares three children—informed the suspect’s wife that Essan was having an extramarital affair.
The revelation triggered a violent confrontation between Essan and his wife. During the clash, she disclosed that Essuman’s wife was the source of the information.
Furious, Essan physically assaulted the Okada rider’s wife. The incident was reported to the local police, but Essan absconded to evade arrest.
Seeking further retaliation, Essan subsequently confronted Essuman, pulled out a sharp cutlass, and chopped off his hand.
Bystanders rushed to the scene to administer first aid before transporting the victim to a nearby health facility, where he is currently undergoing emergency surgical care.
The gruesome attack has sparked outrage among residents in Kansaworodo. Community members have called on the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Police Command to launch an immediate manhunt for the fleeing suspect to ensure he faces justice.
