Tension brewed within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Atwima Kwanwoma Constituency of the Ashanti Region during their constituency elections, following allegations of delegates’ album manipulation.
Aggrieved delegates accused the compilation team of removing qualified delegates and inserting unqualified individuals to favor specific candidates.
In protest, the delegates invoked the Antoa deity, pouring libations and slaughtering a sheep and a fowl while calling on Antoa Nyamaa and other river deities to deal with those responsible unless the register was corrected.
Speaking on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Constituency Secretary aspirant Mr. Kinston Owusu Bediako expressed deep disappointment, insisting that delegates would not stand by while their sacrifices for the party were undermined.
He doubted party leadership would initiate post-election dialogue, noting that executives failed to intervene when delegates needed them most. When asked if the aggrieved group would reverse the curses, Mr. Bediako gave a categorical no, maintaining that those behind the fraud must suffer for their actions and expressing complete confidence that their deities would act effectively.
“We had raised concerns over the album, but nobody paid attention. There were names included that should not be there. Those who were supposed to be included were removed. Just a day to the election, the Regional Minister admitted that the register was indeed ridden with errors, but it was too late to rectify it. That was why the curses were invoked against the leadership who supervised the thievery and those who had their names included. I would have won if the register was rectified,” he noted.
“We trust in our deities to deal with those involved. We are therefore appealing to them to expedite the requests we have made with the speed of light. We want the deities to deal with those involved to serve as a deterrent to others so we will not have a repeat of what has happened. We cannot continue to have these political leaders use dubious means in treating others unfairly. We will not reverse the curses; we will rather invoke more curses.”
When asked why they chose not to leave the matter to God, he responded, “Praying to God to intervene will delay, and we wanted our prayers to be answered with the speed of light, and the deities would be faster.”
The aggrieved delegates refused to reverse the curses, demanding that the deities act with maximum speed to punish those responsible for tampering with the register to deter future political misconduct, while threatening to stack even more curses onto those involved.
