A 34-year-old popular market preacher, known locally as Evangelist Nyame Nipa, has been subjected to severe beatings by traders and market women at the Kasoa main lorry station after he allegedly stole a mobile phone belonging to one of the vendors.

According to sources, the preacher stole the device and quickly left the immediate vicinity under the pretext of attending to nature’s call. However, his attempt to switch off the phone while away proved futile due to a screen lock on the device.

Unaware of the impending trouble, Evangelist Nyame Nipa returned to the scene a few minutes later to retrieve the remainder of his preaching equipment. Unfortunately for him, the stolen phone began to ring loudly from inside his pocket, immediately exposing him to the surrounding crowd.

Reporting the incident on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM’s flagship news bulletin, Nyankonton Mu Nsem, news reporter Opanyin Darko stated that the enraged traders swiftly descended on the preacher, assaulting him severely before retrieving the stolen handset.

Despite the assault, the traders opted not to hand the suspect over to the police for formal prosecution. They explained that they chose to let him go out of deference to his status as an evangelist, seeking to avoid escalating the matter further.
