National Democratic Congress (NDC) Deputy National Communications Officer Godwin Ako Gunn has issued a stern reminder to newly elected party executives, urging them to exercise extreme caution in their public discourse to avoid compromising party interests.
In a statement congratulating the newly elected officers following the party’s recent internal elections, Mr Ako Gunn emphasised that political leadership carries significant public responsibility.
He cautioned the newly sworn-in officers against speaking indiscriminately on national issues, advising them to consult communication leads before addressing sensitive matters.
“Before your orientation, one of the first lessons you must learn is the art of effective communication. Politicians are naturally communicators; however, I urge you to take this caution seriously: exercise your right to remain silent when necessary and seek clearance before commenting on sensitive matters,” he stated.
Addressing the pressure placed on the party’s official spokespersons during controversial moments, Mr Ako Gunn called for coordinated messaging across all levels.
“Learn to control the urge to speak on every issue. This will help us coordinate our responses clearly and appropriately at all times. Please do not put our communicators under unnecessary pressure by making comments they must struggle to defend,” he added.
Reflecting on recent media developments, the Deputy Communications Officer acknowledged that an allegation involving a former Constituency Secretary posed significant hurdles for the party’s media team last week. He warned that the actions and utterances of party officials directly impact public perception.
“An allegation against our former Constituency Secretary threw us into disarray. The issue gained significant attention because of the office he held. That is the power and responsibility you now carry as constituency executives,” he warned.
Turning his focus to the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Ako Gunn asserted that attempts to tie the NDC to public scandals have largely failed due to the party’s commitment to accountability and high standards of governance.
“The NPP has made several attempts to associate our party with scandals, but these attempts have not always yielded the intended results because we believe in maintaining high standards of governance and accountability,” he stressed.
He encouraged unsuccessful candidates to remain committed to the party, reminding them that leadership remains a collective effort aimed at securing victory in future elections.
CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL NEWLY ELECTED PARTY OFFICERS

By: Godwin Ako Gunn
On behalf of the Communication Team, I wish to congratulate all the winners of last weekend’s elections. May your tenure be successful and productive. Always remember that leadership is a four-year marathon, not a sprint. Working together as a team will help us reach the finish line successfully and secure more seats for the party.
As our new ambassadors, you must remember the words of our elders: “To whom much is given, much is expected.” I therefore urge you to put aside any old habits and embrace the beautiful regalia of representing the party at all levels. Your conduct, words, and actions must reflect the values and aspirations of the party at all times.
I will be the first to admit that our communicators had a difficult time last week. An allegation against our former Constituency Secretary threw us into disarray. The issue gained significant attention because of the office he held. That is the power and responsibility you now carry as constituency executives. I pray that you will live up to expectations and make us proud.
Before your orientation, one of the first lessons you must learn is the art of effective communication. Politicians are naturally communicators; however, I urge you to take this caution seriously: exercise your right to remain silent when necessary and seek clearance before commenting on sensitive matters. Otherwise, anything you say could be used against you and the party.
Learn to control the urge to speak on every issue. This will help us coordinate our responses clearly and appropriately at all times. Please do not put our communicators under unnecessary pressure by making comments they must struggle to defend with graphs, figures, and geometric calculations.
Emotional intelligence is equally important, whether in moments of defeat or celebration. How we conduct ourselves today matters greatly for the sake of tomorrow. We must learn to celebrate with humility, accept defeat with dignity, and remain mindful of the relationships and responsibilities that lie ahead.
Overall, we had a very successful weekend.
The NPP has made several attempts to associate our party with scandals, but these attempts have not always yielded the intended results. This is because we believe in maintaining high standards of governance and accountability. These standards must not apply only to government officials; they must also be upheld by party officials. As the saying goes, “Sɛ nimɔ entumi wo ara, ɛtiti wo ntima.” We must all be mindful of our conduct and ensure that our actions do not bring the party into disrepute.
To those who could not make it, hold your heads high. Support the newly elected executives with dignity and continue to contribute to the party’s progress. Remember, no door remains permanently closed to anyone. Keep hope alive, for better days lie ahead.
