The Government of Ghana has expressed deep sadness over the murder of 15-year-old Javits Badu Nkansah Frimpong, who was fatally shot by unidentified gunmen in the Bronx, New York, on Thursday morning.
The teenager was on his way to school around 9:20 am when he was attacked, prompting swift reactions from Ghanaian officials who have vowed to ensure those responsible face the full rigor of the law.
In a press statement released on Friday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, spoke directly with the victim’s father, Mr. Thomas Frimpong, to offer the state’s full support.
“We will pursue justice, and we will make sure that those who did this do not get away with it,” the Foreign Minister declared.
Extending condolences on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, the Minister described the incident as a painful tragedy.
“We are all saddened. We are all distraught. He did not deserve this,” he added.
Diplomats from Ghana’s Permanent Mission in New York visited the bereaved family at their home to commiserate and convey solidarity on behalf of the nation. Ghana’s diplomatic mission is currently working alongside US authorities to oversee the investigation and offer consular and legal assistance.
The Ministry urged local police authorities in New York to conduct a rigorous investigation to apprehend the assailants.
The state reiterated its unwavering commitment to the protection, dignity, and welfare of Ghanaian citizens worldwide, sending prayers to Javits’ loved ones in the United States and Ghana, particularly his mother, Doris Adu Gyamfi, in Kumasi.
