International manhunt underway for Nigerian romance fraudster who vanished before prison sentence

Federal authorities in the United States have launched an international manhunt for a 46-year-old Nigerian national after she failed to report to prison to serve an eight-year sentence for her involvement in a multi-million-dollar romance scam.

Emuobosan Emmanuella Hall, a US permanent resident based in Atlanta, Georgia, was indicted by a federal grand jury on October 23, 2026, for failing to surrender to the Bureau of Prisons. She is currently on the run, with a warrant issued for her arrest alongside a $5,000 reward from the FBI for information leading to her capture.

Hall previously admitted to her role in a sophisticated conspiracy that targeted predominantly elderly women online. Conspirators posed as foreign philanthropists, high-ranking military officers, or overseas entrepreneurs across social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram. After gaining the victims’ trust, the scammers shifted communications to encrypted apps such as WhatsApp, fostering fake romantic relationships before requesting money under the guise of charitable causes or medical emergencies.

Court records show Hall used a shell company, Le Beau Monde LLC, alongside her co-conspirator Kenneth G. Akpieyi, to siphon funds. Hall deposited victim payments into corporate accounts before transferring the proceeds to various domestic and foreign financial institutions. She accepted responsibility for over $851,000 in losses, while Akpieyi was deemed responsible for more than $3.5 million in fraudulent damages.

While Akpieyi was sentenced to 25 years in prison following a trial in July 2025 and immediately remanded into custody, US District Judge Jane Triche Milazzo permitted Hall to remain on bond following her sentencing in January 2026. Hall was ordered to surrender to her designated facility in Minnesota by March 25, 2026.

According to investigative records, Hall’s court-ordered GPS tracking device ceased transmitting at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on March 24. Although she had supplied her probation officer with flight details to Minnesota, airline records confirmed she never boarded the aircraft.

US Attorney David I. Courcelle condemned her disappearance, stating that her flight from justice highlighted a total disregard for the legal system. He warned that authorities would actively pursue both Hall and anyone assisting her in hiding from federal law enforcement.

If apprehended and convicted on the new failure-to-appear charge, Hall faces up to ten additional years in prison, to be served consecutively to her original eight-year term, alongside fines of up to $250,000.

Members of the public with information regarding Hall’s whereabouts are urged to contact the FBI. Authorities emphasized that the new indictment remains an allegation until proven in court.
