Police have taken 192 suspects into custody following a series of intelligence-led sweeps targetting criminal hideouts across several regions.

The swoops, executed by the IGP Special Operations Team between 2nd and 29th October, led to the seizure of substantial quantities of suspected narcotics, illegal pharmaceuticals, firearms, and offensive weapons.

The targeted operations spanned various key locations, including Lapaz, Teshie, Dansoman, Weija, Odawna, James Town, Tudu, New Town, Okaishie, Avenor, Chantan, and Fadama.

In one of the major interventions at Teshie on 22nd October, officers rounded up 102 individuals, comprising 93 men and nine women. The team seized compressed dried leaves, seven bottles of nitrous oxide, and codeine syrup. Eight of the detainees, described as major narcotics dealers, have been transferred to the Drug Law Enforcement Unit.

Earlier on 15th October, a swoop across Lapaz and Chantan yielded 41 arrests. Forensic teams are currently processing quantities of suspected illicit substances seized during that raid.

The team also raided the Okaishie Drug Lane on 9th October, apprehending eight individuals and impounding unregistered pharmaceutical drugs, including Tramadol and Rohypnol.

In Odawna, covert surveillance resulted in the arrest of a 52-year-old businessman, Richard Polo, after police uncovered quantities of suspected cocaine and other prohibited substances at his residence.

Swoops in Fadama and Shukura late in the month led to the arrest of two suspects, Douglas Kobby and Habib Yakubu. Search efforts retrieved four parcels of suspected narcotics, seven live cartridges, a pump-action magazine, a dagger, and a machete.

The operations extended beyond the capital to Alabonu near Asutuare, where officers detained three suspected vigilantes and transferred them to the Tema Regional Police Command. Additionally, a raid in the Eastern Region resulted in four arrests and the recovery of a pump-action shotgun, live ammunition, Indian hemp, and Tramadol.

All 192 suspects remain in police custody assisting with ongoing investigations as security forces move to dismantle connected criminal networks.
