New York City Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani has announced that President Donald Trump has agreed to immediately grant a visa to the grieving mother of Javits Frimpong, the 15-year-old Ghanaian teenager who was fatally shot in the Bronx.
The young Ghanaian student, who had moved to the United States just a year ago to join his father, Thomas Frimpong, was tragically killed while heading to school. His untimely death has sent shockwaves through the local community and the Ghanaian diaspora.
In a statement shared via his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Mayor Mamdani emphasised that no parent should ever have to bear the pain of losing a child, particularly from thousands of miles away.
“The murder of a child is a pain no parent should have to endure, let alone from thousands of miles away,” Mayor Mamdani stated.
“Javits Frimpong’s mother deserves to say goodbye to her son in person. I just got off the phone with President Trump and he has agreed to grant her visa immediately. All of New York City is mourning this tragedy.”
Javits Frimpong’s death has sparked widespread grief and outrage.
According to reports from his family, the quiet and clever teenager had allegedly faced bullying at his school prior to the fatal incident.
Police investigations into the shooting are currently ongoing as authorities hunt for the suspects involved.
