A joint intelligence-led operation between Ghanaian and Lebanese law enforcement authorities has led to the arrest of a Syrian national at the Rafic Hariri International Airport in Beirut.
The suspect was intercepted on Saturday, 31 October 2026, following his arrival from Accra, Ghana, carrying approximately 40 kilograms of suspected cocaine concealed within two pieces of luggage.
The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Sunday, 1 November 2026, noting that the breakthrough was achieved through a coordinated controlled delivery exercise.
According to NACOC, the cross-border operation was designed to identify and apprehend key targets across the supply chain while gathering crucial intelligence to dismantle the wider transnational criminal network operating behind the shipment.
“This successful apprehension resulted from a coordinated controlled delivery exercise, carried out through close operational cooperation between Ghanaian and Lebanese drug law enforcement authorities,” NACOC stated.
Highlighting the broader significance of the bust, the Commission emphasized that the operation demonstrates both nations’ shared commitment to combating international drug trafficking through robust intelligence-sharing.
As investigations continue, NACOC confirmed that security forces are actively working to track down and arrest local accomplices operating within Ghana.
