Leadership of the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) and the Colleges of Education Non-Teaching Staff Association of Ghana (CENTSAG) at Savannah College of Education, Daboya, have suspended their sit-down strike with immediate effect.
The industrial action, which was triggered by persistent delays in the migration of staff, was officially called off following high-level interventions and ongoing negotiations with key stakeholders.
According to a press statement issued by the joint leadership, the decision follows appeals from the Honourable Regional Minister—who engaged staff on behalf of the President of the Republic of Ghana—alongside the North Gonja District Chief Executive, traditional leaders, the Savannah Regional Director of Education, College Management, and the North Gonja District Police Commander.
“After listening to staff concerns, the Honourable Regional Minister assured that the outstanding issues would receive the necessary attention and appealed to the unions to end the industrial action,” the statement read.
The unions noted that subsequent engagements with College Management yielded initial progress, prompting the decision to suspend the strike to allow ongoing consultations and negotiations to continue uninterrupted.
As part of efforts to reach a permanent resolution, union leaders have been invited to a critical meeting with the Director-General and the Director of Budget of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) on Tuesday, 3rd November.
“The meeting is expected to clarify the next steps and establish a clear roadmap and timelines for completing the migration process, particularly with regard to the fifteen (15) limited clearances,” the leadership stated.
All members of CETAG and CENTSAG at the institution have been directed to resume their normal duties. However, union executive members cautioned that the suspension should not be misconstrued as a final resolution, emphasizing that the underlying migration issues remain matters of serious concern.
