The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested a 72-year-old man wanted in connection with the murder of two individuals at the NTHC Estate in Sakumono, Greater Accra Region.
The suspect, identified as Samuel Christopher Osei Anto, was apprehended on Sunday, November 1, 2026, at a hideout in Tikrom, near Ejisu in the Ashanti Region.
His arrest follows a press release issued by the Accra Regional Police Command on October 30, 2026, regarding the murder of Irene Atuguba, 47, and George Atuguba, 57.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the killings stemmed from a financial dispute between George Atuguba and the suspect. According to the police, Anto allegedly borrowed GH¢500,000.00 from the deceased but failed to repay the sum.
Officers acted on intelligence regarding the suspect’s whereabouts to execute the operation.
“During the operation, a Smith & Wesson pistol together with seven (7) rounds of live ammunition was retrieved from him,” stated Superintendent Godwin Ahianyo, Head of the Public Affairs Unit for the Ashanti Region.
The police confirmed that the suspect remains in custody to assist with ongoing investigations, while the retrieved firearm and ammunition have been retained as evidence.
