The Executive Director of the JATIKAY Centre, Adib Saani, has called for the immediate dismissal of the Head of the Narcotics Control Commission following the seizure of 46.7 kilogrammes of cocaine originating from Accra.
Speaking on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on RainbowRadio87.5FM, the security analyst demanded a complete overhaul of the Commission, warning that the country’s drug enforcement failures are rapidly getting out of hand and require urgent answers.
His demands follow the recent arrest of a Syrian national at Lebanon’s Rafic Hariri International Airport.
The suspect was intercepted with the illicit drugs, which had allegedly been transported seamlessly through Ghana.
The bust, recorded as the largest in the history of the Lebanese airport, has been described as a monumental embarrassment to Ghana, raising severe questions regarding the effectiveness of the wider national security ecosystem.
Mr Saani insisted that the supreme interest of the country must supersede individual preservation. He noted that the government must not hesitate to change the leadership of national security institutions if it is required to restore public confidence and safeguard the state.
“The country must come first, and we cannot compromise our national integrity merely to make certain individuals happy,” he stated.
Describing the Lebanon interception as one incident too many, he charged the relevant authorities to investigate and resolve the matter with extreme urgency. He further cautioned that Ghana can no longer afford repeated operational failures in its fight against global narcotics trafficking.
