A high-powered delegation from Liberia’s Ministry of Labour, led by Emmanuel K. Barnes, has arrived in Accra for a study visit to Ghana’s Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment to benchmark and explore best practices in national labour administration.
The visiting delegation was received by the Sector Minister, Hon. Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum, alongside the Chief Director, Hamidu Adakurugu Esq., and key members of management, together with heads of various departments and agencies under the Ministry.
Welcoming the delegation, Hon. Agyekum highlighted essential pillars of Ghana’s labour ecosystem, including robust legal and institutional frameworks, the structural transition from the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) to the Independent Public Sector Emoluments Commission (IPEC), and progressive labour migration initiatives such as the Ghana Labour Exchange Programme.
Expressing gratitude for the warm reception, Mr Barnes noted that Liberia is eager to leverage Ghana’s rich experience to effectively tackle its domestic challenges, particularly frequent labour strikes and pressing occupational safety and health concerns.
The initial engagement allowed the delegates to interact directly with agency heads to understand their specific mandates, operational structures, and administrative strategies.
As part of the multi-day tour, the Liberian officials will engage in direct field interactions with key sub-agencies to gain practical, first-hand insight into their daily operations.
The study tour is set to deepen bilateral cooperation between Ghana and Liberia while fostering continuous knowledge sharing and technical collaboration across both West African nations.
