A 29-year-old tricycle rider, Naah Mashood, has been sentenced to 14 years imprisonment with hard labour by the Wa High Court for defiling a three-year-old girl at Tiegber in the Wa Municipality.
The convict, who was hired by the victim’s parents to transport the child to and from school, lured her to a secluded location on 23 February 2026 and sexually assaulted her inside his tricycle, locally known as a Cambuu.
Following a complaint lodged by the victim’s mother, officers from the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Upper West Regional Police Command arrested Mashood on 24 February 2026.
Following investigations, the police arraigned the convict before the Wa District Magistrate Court. He subsequently stood trial at the Wa High Court, where he was found guilty of defilement. Presiding over the case, His Lordship Justice Osei-Wusu handed down the 14-year sentence on 30 October 2026.
The Upper West Regional Police Command praised the officers and individuals whose efforts ensured justice was served. Regional Commander DCOP Francis Yinboare urged parents to remain vigilant over their children’s safety and called on the public to report all suspected cases of child abuse to the police or DOVVSU.
