The Bono Regional Command of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has trained about 20 personnel in diving and water rescue operations to enhance the region’s overall emergency preparedness.
The strategic exercise forms part of the Service’s commitment to improving its capacity to save lives during water-related incidents, particularly involving individuals trapped in wells, rivers, streams, and other deep bodies of water.
Organised by the Regional Operations Officer, DOI Ignatius Noekor, alongside Training Officer DOII Baba Kwaku, the initiative received strong backing from the Regional Fire Commander, ACFO II Robert Attah Kumi.
Army Officer SGT Agyeman and swimming instructor Dzah Edmund Juster directly supervised the rigorous session, guiding officers through specialized drills.
Participants were taken through intensive practical modules, including advanced swimming techniques, side-stroking, deep diving, underwater search and rescue, descending from heights, breath control, alongside prolonged floating and treading.
The newly acquired skills are expected to significantly augment the pool of qualified rescue divers within the region, ensuring swift and effective responses to aquatic emergencies.
