Hamile explosion was preventable — Security analyst

November 4, 2026
Asiedu Tetteh

The tragic explosion at Hamile in the Upper West Region that claimed three lives could have been completely avoided with proper cross-border coordination, security analyst Andrews Asiedu Tetteh has stated.

Speaking on Rainbow Radio’s flagship news bulletin Nyankonton Mu Nsem, Mr Asiedu Tetteh argued that the area’s sensitive position along the border demands a higher degree of security discretion and tactical foresight.

He explained that even if the individuals aboard the tricycle were suspected of carrying contraband or illicit materials, officers ought to have alerted their security counterparts across the border to intercept the vehicle rather than engaging in a high-risk pursuit.

“Even if those aboard the tricycle were suspected of carrying suspicious items, the officers could have alerted security personnel on the other side of the border to intercept them rather than pursuing them,” he noted, adding that seamless coordination across the frontier would have safely defused the situation.

While extending his condolences to the bereaved families and the Ghana Immigration Service, Mr Asiedu Tetteh maintained that lessons must be drawn from the mishap to prevent similar occurrences in sensitive border communities.

Following the deadly blast, the government mobilised the Ghana Air Force to airlift an injured immigration officer from the Nandom Hospital to Accra for specialist medical care.
