Ghana and Antigua and Barbuda are set to strengthen their bilateral health agreement following praise for the performance of the first batch of Ghanaian healthcare professionals sent to the Caribbean nation.
The host country made the request during a high-level bilateral engagement between Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and his Antiguan counterpart, Everly Paul Chet Greene, on the sidelines of the recently concluded Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Antigua and Barbuda.
During the discussions, Foreign Minister Chet Greene confirmed that the initial deployment of one hundred and twenty Ghanaian nurses has yielded impressive results across various health facilities in Antigua, prompting a formal request for additional healthcare workers to augment the island’s health sector.
The partnership coincides with the rollout of a comprehensive Visa Waiver agreement between both nations.
The framework, which covers all categories of passport holders, is expected to enhance trade, boost tourism, and foster stronger cultural and economic exchanges between the two countries.
Beyond bilateral ties, the meeting highlighted Ghana’s broader diplomatic strategy as it prepares to assume the Chairmanship of the African Union next year.
Ghana is actively consolidating international partnerships to champion urgent reforms at the United Nations, particularly advocating for permanent African representation on the UN Security Council.
