Residents across the Kwahu Afram Plains North and South constituencies have been plunged into darkness following a major power outage that has lasted for over 27 hours.
The blackout was triggered after an Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) supply cable spanning the River Afram caught fire.
Eyewitnesses in the area reported seeing flames burst along the riverline section of the cable immediately after the electricity cut out.
While no casualties have been reported from the incident, the sudden collapse of the supply line has left communities and local businesses stranded.
Disgruntled residents are appealing directly to ECG management to deliver a lasting and sustainable solution to the area’s recurring power challenges, rather than relying on quick temporary fixes.
Engineers from the Electricity Company of Ghana are currently on site working to repair the damaged infrastructure and restore power to the two affected constituencies.
ECG officials are yet to establish the exact cause of the river cable fire, and investigations into the incident remain ongoing.
