Takoradi MP, Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, has called on the NDC administration to secure funding in the upcoming 2027 Budget to finish the abandoned Takoradi Market Redevelopment Project.
Contributing to debates on the floor of Parliament during the First Sitting of the Third Meeting of the Second Session on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, the lawmaker made a strong case for stalled infrastructure developments started under the former Nana Akufo-Addo administration.
Top of his list is the famous Takoradi Market Circle, a flagship venture he revealed is currently sitting near completion whilst physical work has ground to a complete halt.
“Mister Speaker, we believe that there is enough money and the next budget that is coming, I will be happy to see that reflected in that budget,” Darko-Mensah urged.
The Takoradi MP expressed deep concern over the two-year freeze on construction, pointing out that despite the project being roughly 80 per cent complete, no progress has been registered over the past two fiscal years.
“At least 80% of the project was done and for two years 0% was done, in 2025, another 0% has been done in 2026. We want to be sure that in 2027 at least some work will be done on the Market Circle for Takoradi,” he stated.
Darko-Mensah further raised concerns over the minimal involvement of constituency representatives during budget preparation stages, insisting that the market project must be prioritised and completed within the next 12 months for the benefit of local traders and residents.
