The Second Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, has described the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) as a useless institution following the recent spate of cocaine scandals.
He lamented that the recurring interception of cocaine and other narcotic substances originating from Ghana poses an ominous threat to the country’s national security and international standing.
Speaking at a press conference at the party’s headquarters on Wednesday, 4 November 2026, the legal practitioner stated that the government appears comfortable with how Ghana’s image is being damaged due to drug-related cases.
He urged President John Dramani Mahama to take decisive measures to halt the growing menace, noting that Ghana recently placed fifth among countries from which illicit drugs are transported to Antwerp.
Nana B criticized the government’s handling of the situation, expressing grave concern over the lack of administrative action against the heads of relevant security and preventive agencies. He called on President Mahama to demonstrate firm leadership to restore public confidence and safeguard the nation’s international reputation.
He questioned why the Interior Minister, Muntaka Mubarak, remains at post despite publicly admitting that certain government officials are involved, and revealing that foreign counterparts in destination countries are unwilling to share information due to a lack of trust.
Mr Boakye insisted that a bipartisan parliamentary probe must be launched into the matter and that all agency heads responsible for preventing drug trafficking should be relieved of their duties.
He maintained: “NACOC has become very useless. The Leadership there has become useless regarding the fight against illicit drugs, against cocaine and I am surprised that President Mahama cannot even sack them. This is a stinking record. For less than two years, you have these people supervising the passage of close to about 12 tonnes of cocaine through our ports and airports and they are still at post.”
He further demanded that the heads of NACOC, the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, and the Ghana Airports Company Limited be sacked without delay.
