President John Dramani Mahama has held high-level discussions with executives of global aerospace giant Boeing as Ghana moves closer to re-establishing a national carrier. The meeting forms part of ongoing efforts to bolster the country’s aviation sector and position Accra as the primary transport hub in West Africa.
Preliminary studies conducted on the proposed national airline have officially affirmed the viability of the project. The positive evaluation paves the way for the government to execute the next phase of the ambitious venture, which aims to capitalise on the nation’s strategic position along international flight routes.
Following the talks, a comprehensive roadmap for setting up the airline was mutually agreed upon. The execution plan will focus on securing a strategic airline partner and a technical partner to drive operational success. Key operational milestones including the acquisition of an Air Operator Certificate, fleet selection, and structuring financial frameworks will also be addressed under the roadmap.
Executives from the Boeing group assured President Mahama of their continued technical and advisory support throughout the establishment and operational stages of the airline. The aerospace leader expressed confidence in Ghana’s vision and pledged to assist in ensuring the carrier meets international aviation standards.
The establishment of the new national airline is expected to maximize the utilisation of Ghana’s newly upgraded airport infrastructure. It directly aligns with President Mahama’s overarching vision to establish Kotoka International Airport and the broader Accra enclave as the premier aviation gateway in the sub-region.
Beyond boosting infrastructure and regional connectivity, the project promises significant economic benefits for the country.
The national airline is projected to create thousands of direct and indirect jobs across the domestic aviation value chain, generating opportunities for local pilots, cabin crew, aeronautical engineers, and aviation management professionals.
