The 99-year-old Adisadel College, also known as ADISCO, will cut sod for a Solar Revolution initiative tomorrow, Friday, December 1, 2023.
The GHS2.5 million project will see the construction of solar energy systems for the college’s academic facilities, administration block, dining hall, teachers’ and students’ housing, the Centenary Building and the 98-year-old Reading Complex.
The project, according to the year group, would usher in a green solar energy revolution at Adisadel College, which also fits with Goal 7 of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The Cape Coast-based Anglican boys school will, on March 9, 2024, give special honours to the 99-year-old group, Santa 99, to host the 114th Speech Day and to deliver a legacy project.
The 99-year-old group will use this effort to celebrate and give back to their alma mater.
The 1999-year group’s legacy project, dubbed the Adisadel College Green Revolution, would provide sustainable and clean energy.
Godly A. Korsah, Chairman of the Year Group’s Marketing, Publicity, and Communication Committee, and Baffoe Bonnie were in the Rainbow Radio (87.5 FM) studio to discuss why the initiative was vital.
According to them, the legacy project will power the next generation through green sustainable, clean solar energy.
The two explained that the core objective of the project shall be to provide a sustainable, clean, and cheaper alternative source of energy, with the aim of providing a reliable energy alternative that would ensure minimal interruptions to learning and key academic work of students and staff.
The project would offer current students hands-on experience and the opportunity to learn how they can solve real-world energy issues innovatively.
It would also ultimately teach students how they have the power to change the world around them in their own small yet powerful way.
They therefore encouraged the general public to support the initiative since it is a legacy project.
They have managed to raise the total cost of GHC 2 million towards the project.
Mr. Bonnie specifically defined the school as the best and topmost secondary school in Ghana, which has influenced lives and changed students into professionals in many fields of our lives.
Mr. Akorsah, for his part, stated that Adisadel College has a renowned tradition that requires each year group to organise the annual Speech Day and embark on a legacy project after twenty-five (25) years of completion. He also asked former pupils, sympathisers, and others to assist in this legacy endeavour.
