The Ghana Armed Forces has disclosed that some illegal miners, numbering about 60, breached the Anglo Gold Ashanti mine’s security fence and intruded at Core d’Or Ramp.

The statement issued by GAF said the illegal miners wanted to enter the deep decline of the mines.

The military deployed the Operation HALT II duties at the said area, but the illegal miners fired at them when the soldiers tried to stop them from accessing the mentioned area.

It said the illegal miners were working with locally manufactured guns and offensive weapons.

The soldiers also returned fire, following which seven illegal miners were killed and one seriously injured.

The remaining miners, according to GAF, bolted.

The soldiers later retrieved six pump-action BB cartridges.

A soldier who also sustained injuries has also been treated and discharged.

The GAF cautioned the public against attacking its personnel, or it would be forced to defend itself.
