The Parliamentary Committee on Chieftaincy, Culture and Religious Affairs has pledged its maximum support to both religious and traditional leaders to promote and maintain our culture for the development of Ghana.

Speaking at its inaugural meeting, the Chairman of the Committee, who is also the MP for Offinso North, Dr Fred Kyei Asamoah, said several countries across the world have achieved much through the promotion of their culture, all because of the special attention given to their traditional, religious and cultural issues; therefore, Ghana cannot take these three aspects for granted.

He explained that the mandate of his committee is critical to the social and economic development of the country, as culture, religion and chieftaincy have played a very critical role in the development of the nation since independence, and it is time to improve it to achieve maximum benefit.

The Ranking Member on the Committee, who is also the MP for Pusiga, Hon Laadi Ayii Ayamba, said the committee is not going to be an armchair committee but will rather do everything possible to assist religious and traditional leaders to promote Ghana’s culture for the benefit of all.

She explained that the committee would take it upon itself to move across the length and breadth of the country to engage with traditional and religious leaders, organizations, and ordinary citizens to talk to them about how to accept and promote Ghana’s culture for national development.

The lawmaker concluded that Ghana is a country of diverse religions where Christians, Muslims, traditionalists, and others coexist without challenges, and based on that, the committee is going to help improve and promote such a beautiful and unique culture for ourselves and unborn generations.
