SEND Ghana, a non-governmental organisation, has commended the government for its decision to uncap the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) and the National Health Insurance Levy (NHIL) as part of the 2025 budget.
The NGO indicated that this will play a crucial role in ensuring sustainable financing for both the education and healthcare sectors, ultimately benefiting millions of Ghanaians.
A statement issued by SEND Ghana said that the uncapping of the NHIL is a major milestone in the country’s efforts to improve healthcare accessibility and affordability.
“The government’s decision to uncap the National Health Insurance Levy (NHIL) and allocate GH¢9.93 billion to the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) in the budget is a major step toward sustainable healthcare financing.
“This action will not only improve access to quality healthcare for Ghanaians but also help the country move closer to achieving Universal Health Coverage. Additionally, the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) has been uncapped, allowing for more resources to address critical infrastructure deficits and enhance the quality of education at the SHS and tertiary levels.”
