Mahama must bring back Sedinam Tamakloe to serve her prison term to prove his anti-corruption stance – Minority

jerry-1st (1)

Second Deputy Minority Chip Whip Jerry Ahmed Shaib says the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) is behaving ruthlessly and lawlessly in how it deals with people alleged to have engaged in corruption.

The Weija Gbawe Member of Parliament says the government and assigns are breaking the law and raiding the homes of former appointees over corruption and corruption-related problems.

Speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Jerry Ahmed Shaib said for a government that claims to be serious about fighting corruption, it should first go and bring back former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Ms Sedina Christine Tamakloe Attionu, to serve her 10-year jail term.

He stated that the former CEO was sentenced to serve in prison after she was found guilty of stealing, procurement breaches and causing a GH¢90 million financial loss to the state.

Ms Attionu was sentenced in absentia by an Accra High Court presided over by Justice Afia Serwaa Asare Botwe, a Court of Appeal judge sitting with additional responsibility as a High Court judge.

Mrs Attionu is currently in the United States of America, where she had travelled to seek medical treatment in 2022.

The MP opined that this high level of corruption committed by the former CEO has been concluded, but the convict is not in the country to serve her term, and so the government must show leadership and return her.

“As we speak, everyone has forgotten about the woman. She was sent to court, charged, and prosecuted for her crimes. She used to work in a government institution, engaged in corrupt practices, and when dragged to court, she ran away to the USA. Has anybody talked about it? But the government is chasing after the Akwatia MP, claiming there is a court warrant. All this flagrant disregard for the rules is unfortunate, and the government must be ashamed of violating people’s human rights.”

Commenting on the raid at the former governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Ernest Addison, he criticized the operatives, stating that the incident was unfortunate and must be condemned.

He told President John Dramani Mahama to exercise caution since he has a lot of goodwill and must not disappoint the people.

“President Mahama has the best of advantages, especially against the backdrop that this is his final term. All President Mahama had to do in his life was to leave a legacy. At this point in time, we have people raiding the homes of people, and we have some of them stealing money and other valuables… Would you leave a legacy with this kind of approach? Legacy means that you will do the right things and people will applaud you. President Mahama has so much goodwill that is unprecedented, and yet, he is not taking advantage of that and is rather causing more problems for himself and the government. If you want Addison, has he run away? All you could have done was to invite him over and question him.”
