Member of Parliament for Weija-Gbawe, Hon. Jerry Ahmed Shaib, has called for immediate action on drainage after touring communities hit by heavy rains and flooding in the constituency.
The MP visited affected areas this morning to assess damage and speak directly with residents.
He inspected some of the worst-hit zones and listened to concerns from community members whose homes and businesses were impacted by the downpour.
Hon. Shaib said the flooding again highlights the pressing need for lasting interventions.
“The situation once again underscores the urgent need for practical and long-term solutions to flooding, particularly the improvement of drainage systems within our communities,” he noted.
He stressed that residents’ safety remains his top priority and pledged to push relevant authorities for quick responses.
“The safety and wellbeing of our people remain my utmost priority. I remain committed to engaging the appropriate authorities and stakeholders to ensure swift attention is given to the challenges caused by the rains and to work toward lasting interventions that will protect lives and property.”
As an immediate step, the MP said he will formally write to the Municipal Chief Executive requesting the deployment of DRIP machines to desilt major drains across the constituency.
To avoid delays, he offered to personally fund fuel for the exercise. “I am also willing to support the operation with fuel to ensure the exercise is carried out effectively and without delay.”
The tour comes after torrential rains triggered flooding in parts of Weija-Gbawe and other areas, displacing residents and damaging property.
