The Member of Parliament for Anyaa-Sowutuom has described the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) as a bunch of jokers following the suspension of the Ghc1 levy on petroleum products.
Hon. Emmanuel Tobbin says the levy in itself was needless, especially coming from a government that berated the previous government over the E-Levy.
He stated that the government look confused and are behaving like jokers with no sense of direction.
“While in opposition, you fiercely opposed the implementation of the E-Levy and promised to scrap it. Indeed, after taking over office, you scrapped it. However, you have introduced a new levy which is four times the E-Levy. The implementation of the E-Levy affected only those who used electronic transactions, but with the GHC1 fuel levy, every single Ghanaian will be affected.
They introduced the levy at dawn without any form of consultation. After introducing the levy, all of a sudden you’ve suspended its implementation, citing the Israel and Iran conflict. They are jokers. They are real jokers.”
The MP, speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, stated that the government sounds confused and failed to think through the levy before having it approved.
He described the government and its assigns as hypocrites for using the conflict as an excuse.
Mr. Tobbin said this same government, while in opposition, slammed the previous government when it told Ghanaians that the Russia-Ukraine war had an external effect on our economy.
