My father’s brutal killing could’ve broken me, but I chose to live and honour his legacy of dignified service – KAA

Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, has recounted the killing of three superior court judges that included his father, an event he has described as a dark day in Ghana’s judiciary history.

According to him, his father, Justice Kwadwo Agyei Agyepong, was one of the three judges abducted and killed in cold blood.

At his official declaration to contest in the presidential primaries for the New Patriotic Party’s presidential candidate slot, the civil engineer said some thought the incident would have demoralized him, but it made him stronger.

He described himself as a man of courage, competence, empathy, compassion, and the moral fortitude to represent the party and also be elected as president of the republic.

Ing. Agyepong has gone through thick and thin throughout his life and experienced very painful moments, including the bizarre killing of his father.

He said life has taught him to have empathy for others, to understand, love, and to genuinely help people close and afar.

“I was a young man of 20 years when I lost dad the late Justice Kojo Agyei Agyepong, a high court judge, defender of rule of law, kidnapped and brutally murdered with three others in the infamous 30th June 1982 abductions. That dastardly Ghana’s history that gave us the martyrs of the rule of law. This tragedy could have broken me forever but I chose to endure. I chose to serve, I chose to live in a way that will honour my father’s legacy of dignified service, justice and fairness.”

According to him, his long, dedicated service to the NPP is a matter of public record, and he has dutifully served all the flagbearers of the NPP since the onset of Ghana’s Fourth Republican history.
