The Ghana Prisons Service has refuted social media claims that evangelist Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, widely known as Agradaa, is receiving special treatment while in custody.
The Service insists that no prisoner is given preferential treatment, and reports of her being housed in a “self-contained” cell or receiving daily visitors are false.
Speaking to Kwabena Agyapong on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM’s Frontline, Superintendent Irene Arthur, the Public Relations Officer for the Prisons Service, stated that the Service does not operate “self-contained” accommodations for inmates.
Her remarks were a direct response to online rumors suggesting Agradaa was being treated differently from other prisoners, including receiving special visitation privileges.
Superintendent Arthur urged the public to disregard the claims, labeling them as baseless.
She noted that since her incarceration approximately two months ago, Agradaa has been a well-behaved inmate, cooperating with prison rules and regulations.
“We have heard news that she is being granted a special accommodation and given preferential treatment. But that information is false and should be treated with the contempt it deserves,” Superintendent Arthur said.
“No one is above the law. Irrespective of your social status, when you are incarcerated, you are treated just like any other prisoner. She is cooperating well with the rules and regulations at the prisons.”
She concluded by admonishing Ghanaians to not give any credence to the false reports circulating online.
