David Kankam Boadu, an aspiring National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called on party leadership to ensure the upcoming presidential primary on January 31, 2026, is transparent, credible, and fair to all contestants.
Safeguarding Party Unity

Mr. Kankam Boadu emphasized that the party must avoid any activities that could undermine the integrity of the polls.

He noted that if the process is perceived as honest, all candidates will be more likely to accept the outcome, regardless of who wins.

Conversely, he warned that any attempts to manipulate the results could lead to the collapse of the “Elephant Family.”

He stressed that a “clean-cut” process is essential for post-election reconciliation, ensuring that losing candidates feel motivated to support the eventual nominee for the 2028 general elections.

Expressing his concerns about the party’s internal health, Mr. Kankam Boadu stated:

“If they want the NPP to collapse, they should go ahead and rig the elections. They should ensure that the elections are held in a transparent and credible manner. If they don’t allow the elections to be clean-cut, then the party will be destroyed. The process must be transparent to the point that no matter the outcome, the candidates will accept it and support the winner for 2028.”

He further cautioned against the party being treated as a private entity: “But if they don’t do that and behave in a manner that will make it look as if the NPP is possessed by a spirit, where the NPP has become an enterprise owned by one person and his family, we would not have a problem. If a political party is an enterprise and owned by one person and his family, the late Dr. Kwame Nkrumah would have gone along with the CPP in his casket. They should allow peace to prevail in the NPP. Whoever is elected must be supported.”

While maintaining a neutral stance toward the individual candidates, the chairmanship aspirant insisted that the collective goal must be party unity. He concluded with a stern warning, noting that the current state of affairs within the NPP does not yet reflect a party fully prepared to secure victory in 2028.
