Adutwum, Bryan, and Agyepong are only testing their popularity for future elections; they’re aware they will not win – Analyst

January 24, 2026
1569-1

Political analyst Samuel Boateng has opined that the upcoming January 31st presidential primary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is a clear two-horse race between Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and former Assin Central Member of Parliament, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.

According to Boateng, the other candidates in the race are merely testing their popularity within the party for subsequent elections.

He indicated that contenders such as Dr. Osei Adutwum, Kwabena Agyepong, and Bryan Acheampong stand no realistic chance of securing victory in this particular poll.

Speaking in an interview on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Boateng explained that these three candidates aim to market themselves to delegates to build a foundation for future contests.

“The contest is a two-horse race between Dr. Bawumia and Kennedy Agyapong. The rest are testing their credibility and popularity for future contests. While all candidates have contributed significantly to the NPP, the two main contenders have marketed themselves better and remain the most popular. One of them will certainly emerge as the presidential candidate,” Boateng stated.

Mr Boateng anticipates that this primary will be more fiercely contested and heated than previous elections.

He noted a shift in party dynamics, pointing out that some individuals who supported Dr. Bawumia in past cycles are now either contesting against him or campaigning for his rivals.

To ensure party unity, Samuel Boateng advised the NPP leadership to conduct a credible, free, and fair process so that the eventual winner is accepted by all factions.

“The election should be competitive and not a ‘straightforward’ affair where a perceived favorite wins at all costs,” he remarked. “The party must ensure fairness so the outcome is respected. This result will ultimately determine whether the NPP is truly prepared for the 2028 general elections.”
