Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has been elected as the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer, securing 110,643 votes, which represents 56.48% of the total votes cast.
Kennedy Agyapong secured 46,554 votes, accounting for 23.76%, while Dr. Bryan Acheampong garnered 36,303 votes, representing 18.53%.
Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum secured 1,999 votes, translating to 1.02%, and Kwabena Agyei Agyepong polled 402 votes, constituting 0.21%.
A total of 211,849 delegates participated in the primary, casting their votes at 333 polling centres across all 277 constituencies.
He was confirmed by Electoral Commission (EC) officials at the party’s headquarters after the collation of results.
“The New Patriotic Party constitution indicates that for a candidate to be elected a presidential candidate, that person must obtain more than 50% of the total valid votes cast.
“On the basis of this result, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia obtained 56.48%. Therefore, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has been duly elected presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party for the 2028 elections,” he said
A total of 196,462 votes were cast nationwide, out of which 561 ballots were rejected.
