Abuakwa South MP slams President’s “takeoff” delay and Healthcare Fixes

Hon. Kingsley Agyemang, the MP for Abuakwa South, tore into the President’s State of the Nation address during a 2026 parliamentary debate on the floor of Parliament on Tuesday March 10, 2026.

He mocked the wgat he described as the administration’s slow pace, comparing the country to an airplane that has spent 15 months just idling on the tarmac.

Mr Agyemang demanded to know why manifesto promises—specifically the 24-hour economy and job creation—remain grounded.

“The President’s address was interspersed with a lot of levity,” Agyemang said. “If the nation is on the runway, it means the President has taken 15 months just to push back and taxi to the runway. This is not a way to go, and we need to be more serious with the way we govern our country.”

The lawmaker also took a swipe at the President’s plan to tackle non-communicable diseases (NCDs), which currently cause 40% of deaths in Ghana.

He dismissed the proposal to build a Ghana Medical Trust Fund—fueled by shifting 80% of a specific NHIA allocation—as a drop in the bucket.

Mr Kingsley Agyemang argued that the scale of the crisis dwarfs the President’s proposed budget.

“Big problems require big solutions. The mere fact that one out of every two deaths in this country is due to NCDs, and the President’s solution is to create a fund, is not enough. We need more rigorous healthcare financing and thoughtful policy-making.”

The MP didn’t hold back his frustration regarding the math behind the healthcare strategy.

He questioned the logic of cannibalising existing funds to solve a massive national emergency.

“We cannot continue to behave this way,” he noted. “How can you take 80% of a fund from an existing problem that’s killing one out of two people in this country? This is not the way to go.”

He wrapped up his critique by insisting the government stop the jokes and start the heavy lifting, stating bluntly that “the people deserve better.”
