Minister of Interior Mohammed-Mubarak Muntaka has maintained that the processes available for applicants to go through the ongoing security services recruitment exercises are meant to recruit the best and finest.
He said there would be no form of compromise in the processes.
Speaking to journalists in Parliament, he stated that there are officers within some of the security services struggling with mental health issues and drug-related problems.
To avoid recruiting unqualified individuals, the minister said the procedures have been made rigorous.
He revealed that about 75,000 graduates and 330,000 applicants with SSS qualifications applied in the ongoing recruitment into the country’s internal security services, although only 5,000 slots were available for recruitment.
All of us know you want to get a professional police officer or a professional immigration officer; you just don’t want any person who goes in. I am sorry to say this: we are having a challenge of people with mental issues in the service. We have people with drug issues in the service. All these are things that you use, and through that, some people will fall along the way to enable you to get the best of the best.”
