The Deputy Minister for Education, Dr Clement Apaak, has called on students to uphold discipline and integrity as they pursue academic and professional excellence.

He made the appeal during the 2025 West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Distinction Awards ceremony held at the Sakyi Asare-Menako WAEC Hall in Cantonments.

“It is a great privilege and honour to join you today to celebrate excellence at the 2025 WAEC Distinction Awards Ceremony. Today, we gather not only to recognise academic brilliance but also to celebrate the values of dedication, resilience, discipline, and perseverance that underpin true success,” Dr Apaak said.

The Deputy Minister extended congratulations to the award winners, noting that their achievements were the result of hard work, focus, and the support of teachers, parents, and mentors.

“Your success today is a testament to the countless hours of study, the sacrifices you have made, and the support you have received. You have set an example for students across Ghana, proving that with focus and determination, greatness is possible,” he added.

While celebrating academic excellence, Dr Apaak also addressed concerns about examination malpractice.

“Reports of impersonation, collusion, and the activities of so-called ‘miracle centres’ undermine the credibility of our education system and erode public confidence in our certificates. As a nation committed to excellence and integrity, we must collectively reject such practices,” he urged.

He further emphasised the critical role of teachers, parents, and school authorities in nurturing young minds.

“Your dedication to guiding these students has been instrumental in their success. On behalf of the Ministry of Education and the Government of Ghana, I commend you for your invaluable contribution to shaping the future of our nation,” Dr Apaak said.

The Deputy Minister encouraged students to remain humble and continue working hard as they advance in their academic and professional journeys.

He also praised WAEC for maintaining high standards in examinations and pledged the ministry’s continued support.
