Gyankroma Akufo-Addo threatens legal action over $25M painting allegations

Gyankroma Akufo-Addo, daughter of President Nana Akufo-Addo, has issued a rebuttal against resurfacing claims that she received a $25 million contract to paint interchanges in the capital.

In a formal statement released today, Friday, March 27, 2025, Madam Akufo-Addo dismissed the allegations as “entirely absurd and false”, labelling the narrative a calculated attempt to damage her reputation through the spread of deliberate misinformation.

The controversy, which has gained significant traction on social media platforms in recent days, suggests that state funds were diverted to her for aesthetic improvements to Accra’s flyovers.

However, Akufo-Addo maintained that no such government contract exists.

“Let me state, again, unequivocally and for the record: This claim is completely false,” the statement read. “No such contract has ever existed, been offered, or been awarded.”

She further challenged her accusers—including media outlets and online commentators—to produce any evidence of the purported agreement. “I challenge them to produce it publicly. They will not because it does not exist.”

Addressing the “Art for All” projects—the initiative responsible for the murals seen across various parts of the city—Akufo-Addo clarified that the ventures were not funded by the state. Instead, she noted they were privately conceived and executed through the Creative Arts Agency.

According to the statement, the projects were financed through a “combination of private sector support and personal contributions”, a fact she insists has been on the public record for some time.

The tone of the statement turned more stern regarding the legal consequences for those amplifying the story. Akufo-Addo confirmed that she has instructed her legal team to pursue immediate action against individuals and media platforms responsible for what she termed a “fabricated” revival of the claims.

“I will not allow deliberate misinformation to go unchallenged,” she concluded.
