On the evening of April 20, 2026, the Northern Regional Special Operations Team, popularly known as “Red Maria”, conducted a successful anti-drug exercise within the Tamale Metropolis.
The operation, led by Chief Inspector Abu Issahaku and a 44-member tactical team, resulted in the arrest of seven suspects and the recovery of 40 wraps of a substance suspected to be Indian hemp.

The exercise commenced around 8:30 p.m. in the Zogbeli area, where the team apprehended four suspects identified as 20-year-old Sulemana Sualha, 25-year-old Alhassan Ayisha, 16-year-old Abdul Fatawu Damba, and 20-year-old Mohammed Amin.
Following these arrests, the unit moved to Kukuo and took two additional suspects, Ibrahim Abdulai, 20, and Issah Abass, 17, into custody.

The operation concluded in Savelugu, where the team acted on specific intelligence to apprehend 21-year-old Ibrahim Osuman.
While Osuman has been identified by authorities as a suspected dealer, a formal search of his residence at the time of the arrest did not uncover any illicit substances.
The Red Maria team has confirmed that all seven suspects are currently in police custody.
They are cooperating with the regional command as investigations continue into the local drug trade.
