Dominic Ayine’s incompetence will destroy your legacy; sack him now — Forum

April 24, 2026
bonsu

Nana Bonsu, the founder of the Justice and Accountability Forum, has issued a stern demand for transparency from the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Dr Dominic Ayine.

He is seeking urgent clarification on the status of several high-profile prosecutions, specifically questioning when the former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, will be brought to justice.

Mr Bonsu highlighted that the Attorney-General has previously utilised press conferences to level serious allegations against former state appointees.

These accusations have ranged from causing financial loss to the state and misappropriation to outright theft and various other financial crimes.

However, he expressed profound disappointment that, despite these public proclamations, no tangible progress has been made in any of these cases, leading to a public outcry for accountability.

The advocate argued that the Attorney-General appears fundamentally ineffective in his role, suggesting that Dr Ayine must either significantly improve his performance or be shown the exit.

He pointedly recalled an instance where the Attorney-General admitted that the former Finance Minister had retained the services of elite legal counsel; a statement Mr Bonsu believes paints Dr Ayine as remarkably incompetent.

While appearing on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, he maintained that no competent Attorney-General worth their salt would make such a self-defeating admission.

“I had my doubts when he was appointed as the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice. He is supposed to demonstrate competence and exhibit the capacity to deliver on his job, to prosecute all those who have stolen our money and secure outcomes that will ensure they are punished.”

He further stressed that it was shocking for the Minister to suggest that bringing Ken Ofori-Atta to justice would be difficult.

He noted that if the state claims wrongdoing, the Attorney-General should get his house in order and ensure the former minister faces the law.

Consequently, Mr Bonsu has called on President Mahama to take decisive action against the Attorney-General, asserting that his performance has been abysmal and warrants dismissal.

“We were in this country when he also held a press conference on the alleged sky train scandal, but till date, we’ve not had any update on the matter. He had made similar allegations against Adu Boahen and Chairman Wontumi, but we are not hearing any update. What is really happening? They claim some of these cases are in court, but the cases are still dragging. I believe the Attorney-General is not performing and will be the one to destroy this government.”
