The Ashanti North Regional Police Command has interdicted a senior officer following allegations of defilement and incest involving his teenage daughter.
Inspector Desmond Owusu Afriyie, who is stationed at the Mamponteng District in the Ashanti Region, is currently the subject of an intensive investigation by the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU).
According to an official statement released by the police, the case was initiated following a formal complaint lodged on 4 November 2025.
The complainant, Charlotte Samaa, reported the matter to authorities in Koforidua on behalf of her 14-year-old daughter.
The teenager alleged that she had been sexually abused by her biological father. In response to the report, the victim was immediately referred to a government health facility for a comprehensive medical examination to provide clinical evidence for the ongoing inquiry.
Inspector Afriyie surrendered himself to the Agona DOVVSU on 20 February 2026.
Upon his arrival, he was arrested and a cautioned statement was obtained from him. Although the suspect denied the allegations during interrogation, he was subsequently released on enquiry bail under the condition that he reports to the authorities periodically.
To ensure the integrity of the process and prevent any potential interference, the Regional Command has formally interdicted the Inspector.
This administrative action sidelines the officer from his duties while the investigation continues.
The Ashanti North Regional Police Command, through its Acting Public Relations Officer, ASP Emmanuel Agbodzi, has assured the public of its commitment to a transparent and thorough investigation.
The Command maintained that it would uphold the highest standards of justice and promised to provide further updates as the legal proceedings and investigative findings develop.
