Veep rallies UNICEF support for inclusive education and child welfare

Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to child development during a high-level meeting with UNICEF officials at her office. Hosting the UNICEF Regional Director for West and Central Africa, Gilles Fagninou, and the UNICEF Ghana Representative, Osama Makkawi Khogali, the Vice President discussed expanding strategic interventions for the nation’s youth.

While acknowledging Ghana’s advancements in social development and reproductive health, Opoku-Agyemang emphasized the government’s long-term vision to ensure every child, irrespective of background or ability, transitions into a productive member of society.

She urged for accelerated investment in educational infrastructure and seamless cross-sector coordination to sustain these developmental gains.

A major focus of the dialogue centered on expanding the scope of inclusive education.

The Vice President lauded UNICEF’s ongoing advocacy for children with disabilities but pushed for an expanded framework that addresses the needs of students facing hidden learning difficulties within mainstream classroom environments.

The Vice President also stressed that policy interventions must be matched by grassroots accountability, calling for increased parental involvement in community health, sanitation, and child welfare.

Both parties concluded the meeting by pledging to deepen the bilateral partnership between Ghana and UNICEF to secure better socio-economic outcomes for families nationwide.
