A Tema Community 22 District Court has convicted and fined a man who physically attacked a midwife at the local polyclinic.
The offender, Desmond Bosomtwe, was ordered to pay a penalty of 100 units, alongside GHS 5,000 in financial compensation to the victim, Nurse Priscilla Addo.
Furthermore, the court imposed a 12-month ban prohibiting Bosomtwe from entering the medical facility, starting from the day of the verdict, Tuesday, June 9.
He was also required to sign a bond to ensure his future good conduct. Observers noted that the judiciary handled the matter with commendable speed, delivering the swift justice that many had anticipated.
The confrontation took place on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, when Senior Staff Midwife Priscilla Addo was managing her shift.
Adhering to standard hospital regulations designed to ensure a peaceful recovery environment for patients, she informed visitors that the designated visiting period had concluded and asked them to exit the ward.
Bosomtwe, who was visiting a hospitalized relative, rejected the directive.
The situation quickly degenerated from a verbal argument into a physical assault on the midwife, a confrontation that was recorded on video.
Following the incident, the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association expressed a desire for even stricter legal penalties in such cases to establish a more powerful deterrent against the mistreatment of healthcare professionals.
