The Toase District Court has dismissed the legal case against a teacher and a student from Nyinahin Catholic Senior High School following a viral video of their physical altercation on school grounds.
The public was deeply unsettled by the widely shared social media footage, which depicted the teacher, Eric Afful, repeatedly hitting the female student before throwing her to the ground, an incident that ultimately led to his arrest.
During the hearing, the court advised the teacher, the student, and their respective families to pursue reconciliation and settle the dispute outside of the courtroom.
Following the session, Professor Elvis Binney, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), addressed the press and urged civil society groups and local community members to stop making prejudicial statements or threatening the teacher.
