The National Anti-Illegal Mining Secretariat (NAIMOS) has seized 1,854 rounds of ammunition, 144 rifles, 116 excavators, and three bulldozers from various illegal mining sites across the country since its inception.
The outgoing Director of Operations, Col. Dominic Buah, disclosed these figures during a handing-over ceremony to usher in his successor, Col. S.A. Appiah.
Reflecting on his tenure, Col. Buah stated that his team successfully laid the foundation for the secretariat’s operations, leaving it to the incoming leadership to elevate the national crackdown on illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.
Col. Buah added that the enforcement of mining laws must remain fair, firm, and ruthless, noting that certain individuals remain determined to destroy Ghana’s water bodies and forest reserves for personal gain.
He further urged Col. Appiah to maintain strict institutional integrity and resist any attempts to shield offenders, regardless of their status or influence.
