The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has announced a dedicated hotline to curb extortion at the country’s airports following a wave of complaints from passengers on social media.
The airport authority stated that the move is part of an ongoing effort to eliminate unprofessional conduct and ensure a seamless travel experience.
To maximize visibility, the emergency contact number is being actively publicized within the airport infrastructure.
“To further protect passengers, we have set up a dedicated hotline for reporting any acts of extortion,” the GACL stated.
“The number is displayed on Flight Information Display Screens and at key locations across the terminal.”
In response to recent public grievances, management emphasized that it maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward staff misconduct. The company has been working closely with various security and border agencies stationed at the terminals to enforce strict ethical standards.
According to the state-owned airport manager, these collaborative efforts are already yielding positive outcomes.
“We hold regular stakeholder engagements with all agencies operating in the terminals, and these sessions have led to measurable improvements recently,” the statement noted.
To ensure swift disciplinary action, authorities are urging travelers to provide specific details when reporting incidents. Passengers can reach the dedicated line at 0542175636 via direct phone calls, text messages, or WhatsApp.
“Please report incidents of extortion including the person’s name and agency to our dedicated line,” the GACL urged. “This will help us take appropriate action.”
