Abu Trica to forfeit mansion and lamborghini in $8m US romance fraud case

Frederick Kumi, a 31-year-old Ghanaian national popularly known as “Abu Trica,” is set to forfeit his luxury mansion in Ghana and a fleet of high-end vehicles—including a Lamborghini, Tesla Cybertruck, Mercedes Benz, and BMW—following his extradition to the United States to face charges over an alleged $8 million romance scam.

The assets, seized by international law enforcement partners, were allegedly acquired using proceeds from a sophisticated fraud network that targeted more than 80 elderly victims across the United States.

Kumi, who also operated under the alias Emmanuel Kojo Baah Obeng, was extradited from Ghana to Cleveland, Ohio, on 9 July 2026, after his initial arrest in Ghana on 11 December 2025.

US court records reveal that between April 2023 and November 2025, Kumi and his co-defendant, 31-year-old Daniel Yussif (alias “Denteni” or “Slab”), acted as leaders of a syndicate targeting vulnerable widows and divorcees on dating websites and social media platforms.

To deceive their victims, Kumi reportedly employed advanced technology, including AI-driven video platforms, to impersonate fictitious female personas. Other members of the syndicate used Ghanaian associates to communicate directly with the victims via encrypted phone applications.

The victims were reportedly manipulated with fabricated stories concerning gold and diamond inheritances, which prompted them to transfer millions of dollars to bank accounts controlled by the syndicate.

The funds were subsequently laundered back to Ghana through fake businesses and contacts within the Ghanaian immigrant community in the US.

Kumi has been charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering conspiracy. He faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted.

The operation leading to his arrest and extradition was a collaborative effort involving Ghana’s Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), the Ghana Police Service, the Cyber Security Authority, and the National Intelligence Bureau, alongside the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the US Department of Justice.
