Officers of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) have arrested ten students of the Koforidua Technical University (KTU) following an intelligence-led operation on the school’s campus.
The suspects were picked up for allegedly manufacturing and selling cannabis-infused drinks and ice creams to unsuspecting students during the university’s Students’ Representative Council (SRC) Hall Week celebrations.
According to a statement issued by the Commission, the operation took place between Friday, July 31 and Saturday, August 1, 2026, leading to the apprehension of 23-year-old Priscilla Tetteh, believed to be the ringleader, alongside nine other young men.
The Commission indicated that the group had established an organized distribution network, actively trading the narcotic-laced edibles to patrons during the festivities before officers moved in to disrupt the trade.
NACOC expressed deep concern over the emerging trend of young people commercializing illegal substances under the pretext of entrepreneurship and entertainment.
The anti-narcotics agency warned that educational institutions must remain places of learning and character development rather than sanctuaries for illicit drug activities.
Reiterating that all forms of cannabis-infused food, beverages, and consumables remain illegal under Ghanaian law, NACOC emphasized that anyone involved in their manufacture, sale, or distribution will face the full rigours of the legal system.
The Commission commended its operational team for executing the swoop without incident and assured the public of intensified surveillance to dismantle similar networks targeting vulnerable youth across the country.
While urging parents, campus authorities, and the general public to report suspicious activities, NACOC confirmed that all ten suspects remain in custody assisting with investigations and will be processed for court in due course.
