Prison is not for animals”: If you want to imprison me over Bawumia friendship, so be it – Kusi Boateng

Rev. Victor Kusi Boateng, Founder and Leader of Power Chapel Worldwide, has declared that he is prepared to face imprisonment rather than abandon his close relationship with NPP flagbearer and former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Addressing his congregation in a viral social media video, the clergyman openly defended his connection with Dr. Bawumia and his wife, Hajia Samira Bawumia, refusing to distance himself despite mounting public criticism.

“If for this reason, anybody wants to imprison me, go ahead,” Rev. Kusi Boateng said, reflecting on past incarceration to emphasize that the prospect of returning to prison does not intimidate him.

“Prison is not for animals. It is for human beings. I have been there. I didn’t die. I came back.”

Maintaining that his association with the couple is neither a crime nor something to conceal, he firmly rejected accusations of hypocrisy, describing them as close friends and family. “I don’t care whoever thinks about it. Dr Bawumia is my friend and will continue to be my friend. I will not hide. I am not a hypocrite,” he added, stating he offers no apologies for the bond.

The pastor’s public stance follows a two-year-old investigation by the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), which cleared him of dual-identity allegations.

The probe stemmed from a January 2023 petition filed by North Tongu MP, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, who accused the National Cathedral Board of Trustees Secretary of conflict of interest and possessing multiple passports under different names.

CHRAJ’s findings revealed that Rev. Kusi Boateng holds a single passport under his legal name, Kwabena Adu Gyamfi, with no evidence of a second passport issued under the former name.

Additionally, addressing Ablakwa’s claim regarding a GH¢2.6 million transfer from the National Cathedral Secretariat to JNS Talent Centre Limited—a company linked to the pastor—CHRAJ concluded the money was not payment for services.

Instead, the funds served as reimbursement for money Rev. Kusi Boateng personally advanced to contractors during a period of financial hardship for the Secretariat.
