Parliament approves Mahama Ayariga, Zanetor Rawlings as Ministers of State

Parliament has given the nod to the ministerial nominations of Mahama Ayariga and Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings.

The approval was granted via a voice vote in the Chamber on Thursday, 27 August 2026, during a sitting presided over by Speaker Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin.

Speaker Bagbin put the motion to the floor following the conclusion of the debate on the report submitted by the Appointments Committee.

“If there are voices we’ve always heard your voices everyday and we know you the leaders and so I put the question those in favor say I those against say no honorable members the ayes have it,” he declared.

“This honorable house has accordingly approved the nominations of His Excellency the President of the following persons as ministers of state in accordance with Article 78(1) of the 1992 Constitution.

“The first is Honorable Mahama Ayariga Minister of Local Government Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, the second is Honorable Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings the Ministry of Environment Science Technology and Innovation.

“On your behalf I want to congratulate the two members of the house for the recognition by His Excellency the President and wish them well in the two ministries,” he added.

Following the parliamentary approval, the Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Hon. Mahama Ayariga, takes charge of the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs. Meanwhile, the MP for Korle Klottey, Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, assumes leadership of the Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation.

The decision of the House comes on the heels of their vetting by the Appointments Committee earlier in the week.
